Keyspan USB-serial
modification
Adding a wireless UART
Starting w/ a common USB-serial dongle, that I have been using for
wired communcation, I made some modifications to include the
Radiotronix WI.232 module inside of it.
I reworked the Keyspan board to include the Radiotronix module,
fastened on top of some two-sided foam adhesive. Two
slider switches select between cabled and wireless mode, and between
command or data mode for the module. The dongle powers down its
RS232 transceivers when it is not active, so I tapped into that logic
to shutdown the receivers when I'm using the wireless module. I
also added tristate buffers to isolate the radio module when it is
powered off.
Now, I just flip the switch and the connection goes wireless, indicated
by the red LED.
